How to spot a good indie mobile game

  • Business model. Premium games cost once; fair free-to-play games sell cosmetics or an ad-free upgrade. Read the in-app purchase list before installing.
  • Permissions and data safety. A puzzle game has no reason to read your contacts. Both stores show what data an app collects.
  • Offline play and controllers. Useful for travel; many indie games support both, and the store page usually says so.
  • Recent updates. New Android and iOS versions break old apps. A game updated in the last year is a safer install.
  • Official links only. Install from Google Play or the App Store through the links on the game page, never from unofficial APK mirrors.

Engines behind indie mobile games
