MU Helper is the official auto-play tool that comes built into MU Online. Auto-play means the game plays for you: your character hunts monsters, casts skills, drinks potions and picks up loot all on its own. Because it is part of the game itself, it is allowed on official servers. This guide shows you how to set it up, what it can and cannot do, and how it is different from the banned third-party bots you should never touch.

What MU Helper is (and why it's allowed)

MU Helper is the official auto-play helper built into MU Online. When you turn it on, your character does the work for you. It walks to nearby monsters, attacks them with the skills you pick, drinks potions when your HP (health) drops low, and grabs the items that drop.

It is a normal part of the WEBZEN game client (the program you use to play MU Online). That is why it is allowed on official servers and needs no extra download.

Here is the key thing: MU Helper is not a cheat. It is totally different from the third-party bots, macros and auto-clickers some players run. A "third-party" tool is an outside program made by someone other than the game company. Those outside tools are banned on many servers and can get your account suspended. The official Helper has no such risk where it is allowed, because it is the game itself doing the work. While it runs, it also keeps a hunting log, a list that shows your stats for that session (one play period).

Auto-hunt is not a replacement for playing

MU Helper is great for grinding levels (repeating fights to gain EXP and level up) and farming zen while you do something else nearby. But it follows simple rules and is not as smart as a real player. It will not dodge a boss attack or outsmart a PvP enemy (another real player fighting you). So use it for steady farming on a map you have already cleared safely.

How to open and start the Helper

Getting into MU Helper is quick once you know the keys. On most clients:

  • Open the settings window: press [Z], or click the gear / Helper icon at the top of the screen.
  • Start or stop auto-hunting: press [Home], click the middle mouse button, or hold [S] and left-click.
  • View the hunting log: press [End] to see stats from your current session.

One thing trips up new players. Opening the Main Menu or your inventory (your bag of items) stops the Helper. So if your character suddenly stops farming, check for an open menu.

The settings window is split into tabs. There is a Hunting tab for combat and an Obtaining tab for loot (the items you pick up). Newer clients add an "other settings" tab with extras like auto-accept, elite potion and SNS options.

Hotkeys vary by server

[Z] for settings and [Home] to start are common defaults (the keys most servers use). But some private servers change the keys, or give you only a Helper icon you click. If a key does nothing, check that server's own guide or key list. A full list of in-game shortcuts is in the MU Online commands & hotkeys guide.

Hunting tab: attack, range and skills

The Hunting tab is where you tell your character how to fight. The most important setting is Hunting Range. This is measured in tiles (the small grid squares on the map) and it sets how far your character will walk to reach and hit a monster. When the Helper is on, a big circle shows up around your character so you can see this attack range.

You will also find combat toggles (on/off switches) such as Target Concentration (focus the biggest group of monsters), Use Skills Closely, and long-distance counter-attacks. The skill setup is the part most worth getting right.

SlotWhat it doesNotes
Basic SkillYour main attack, used most of the timeUsed first and most. Only plain attack skills go here, with no buffs (boosts) or debuffs (enemy weakeners)
Activation Skill 1A backup attack that fires when a condition is metFires on a timer (use after X seconds) or by how many monsters are near
Activation Skill 2A second backup attackSame options as slot 1, good for combos or AoE (an attack that hits many enemies at once)
Buff / class actionsAuto-refresh buffs (boosts) and special movesHave their own switches, e.g. Dark Knight Combo, Elf party buffs

A safe setup is simple. Put your best attack in the Basic Skill slot. Then add a strong AoE (an attack that hits many enemies) in an Activation Skill slot, set to fire when several monsters are near. Buff skills, buff items and class moves have their own switches. So a Dark Knight can keep Combo going, or an Elf can keep party buffs (team boosts) running on its own. If you are still picking which skills suit your class, the classes guide and stat builds guide will help.

Auto HP/MP potions and survival settings

Auto-potion keeps your character alive while it farms on its own. In the Hunting tab, tick the HP Potion option, then open its Settings. There you pick the HP level (as a percent of full health) where your character drinks a potion. Drinking at around 50-60% HP is a safe starting point. The best number depends on how tanky you are (how much damage you can take) and how hard the map hits.

Most clients also handle MP (mana, the energy you spend on skills) and buff refreshing for you. Newer seasons (game updates) add an elite potion option too. The MP-potion switch and its level are not as clearly documented as the HP one. Some seasons even mix HP, MP and auto-buff into one panel, so check what your server's client shows. Buff skills and buff items can refresh on their own as well, which matters most for support classes (helper characters that heal and boost the team).

Stock more potions than you think you need

A long session uses up potions fast. So fill your inventory before you start, and set the HP level high enough that your character never gets stuck at low health between drinks. The leveling guide lists good early farming maps to auto-hunt safely.

Obtaining tab: auto pick-up filters

The Obtaining tab controls what your character picks up off the ground. Obtaining Range sets how far it will walk to grab an item. This is its own setting, separate from the attack range. Then you choose how picky it is.

  • Pick All Near Items: grab everything that drops nearby. Easy, but your inventory fills up with junk fast.
  • Pick Selected Items: only pick up items you tick on the list, such as jewels (special crafting gems), zen, and certain gear tiers (quality levels). This keeps your bag clean for long sessions.
  • Add Extra Item: a box where you type the exact name of an item you want. This is usually case-sensitive (it cares about capital and small letters), so match the spelling and capitals carefully.

If you are farming crafting materials, set the filter to grab jewels and skip cheap drops. The jewels guide explains which ones are worth the bag space. Many newer clients also add auto-upkeep here. There is automatic equipment repair when your gear's durability (how worn down it is) hits a set level (around 50% is normal), plus Muun repair using a Jewel of Life. That way your gear does not break in the middle of a hunt.

Return, repeat and position control

Left alone, MU Helper repeats its hunt over and over inside the range you set, until you stop it or run out of zen. The Original position return option keeps things neat. It sends your character back to its starting spot every so often, on a timer you set in seconds. This stops it from wandering across the map and keeps it in a place you know is safe and full of monsters.

Higher-level characters get an upgraded version called Helper Plus. Normally it unlocks around level 400+ in high-level maps like Debenter and beyond. It can do smarter things, like moving itself to an empty spawn zone (a spot where monsters appear), or switching channels (separate copies of the same map) when the area gets crowded. You can usually use it only as a solo player or party leader (the person in charge of the group), not as a regular party member.

Helper Plus details are season-specific

The level 400+ rule and the Debenter-and-beyond map list are normal on higher-season official-style servers. Lower-season or heavily customized servers might set a different level, change which maps allow it, or leave Helper Plus out completely. Treat these numbers as a classic default (the common standard setup) and check on your own server.

Costs, time limits and where it works

Running MU Helper is not free on official-style servers. It takes some zen (in-game gold) every 5 minutes while it is on, and the price goes up the longer you run it without a break. On official servers the cost is based on your character level and rises each hour you keep it going. Normally it is around your Level times 20 in the first hour, climbing toward your Level times 60 after four or more hours. Turning the Helper off resets the price back to the start, so short sessions cost less per hour than long marathons.

Hours runningTypical zen rate (official-style)What it means
Hour 1About Level x20 each chargeCheapest. Best deal if you stop and restart
Hour 2-3Goes up each hourThe cost slowly climbs the longer it runs
Hour 4+About Level x60 each chargeMost expensive. Turn it off to reset the price

Two limits matter. First, MU Helper only works in hunting and monster maps. It never works in safe zones or villages (the towns where no fighting happens). Second, the zen cost means you need steady income to farm for a long time. The zen farming guide shows how to keep your gold ahead of the Helper. One more thing: normal MU Helper is "away from keyboard" hunting. That means your client must stay open and logged in. True offline auto-hunt, where it keeps running after you log out, is a different feature that some private servers add on. It is not part of the standard Helper.

The zen formula is a default, not a rule

The Level x20 to x60 numbers and the 5-minute charge are based on official-style servers. Many private servers lower the cost, drop it entirely, or change it completely, and some add a time cap (a limit on how long you can auto-hunt). Always check your server's settings before you guess how much a long session will cost you.

MU Helper vs banned bots, and server differences

This is the part that keeps your account safe. The official MU Helper is safe where it is allowed, with no ban risk, because it is part of the game. Third-party auto-clickers, bots and macros are a totally different thing. These are outside programs (made by other people, not the game company) that click, walk or log back in for you. They are banned on many servers, and using them can get you banned too. Here is a simple rule: if a tool is a separate download that runs outside the game, treat it as a risk.

Official MU Helper

  • Built into the game client, no download
  • Allowed on official servers
  • No ban risk where it is permitted
  • Tracks a clean hunting log

Third-party bots & macros

  • Separate external programs
  • Banned on many servers
  • Real risk of account suspension
  • Can carry malware in fake downloads

Everything about MU Helper is up to each server. The owners can turn it on, limit it, cap hunting time, change or remove the zen cost, or shut it off completely. Some even add true offline auto-hunt that the official game never had. Because of this, there is no single way it works everywhere. The only sure answer is to read the rules of the server you join. If you are still picking one, the best MU Online private servers 2026 guide explains what to check, and you can browse live options on the MU Online ranking or the full server list.

Never download a "MU Helper" from a random site

The real MU Helper is already inside your game client. Any website offering a separate "MU Helper", "auto click" or "bot" download is giving you a third-party tool, not the official feature. It may carry malware (harmful software) or get you banned. Stay safe with the safety checklist, and only ever download the client from your server's official site.

Frequently asked questions

Is MU Helper bannable?

No. MU Helper is the official auto-play feature built into the MU Online client (the game program itself), so it is allowed on official servers and on private servers that turn it on. The ban risk comes from third-party bots, macros and auto-clickers, which are outside programs and are banned on many servers. Always read your own server's rules to be sure it allows the Helper.

How do I turn on MU Helper auto hunt?

Open the settings window with the [Z] key or the gear icon at the top of the screen. Set your hunting range, attack skill and potion options. Then start auto-hunting by pressing [Home], clicking the middle mouse button, or holding [S] and left-clicking. Press [End] to see your hunting log (your session stats). Remember: opening the Main Menu or inventory stops it.

Why does MU Helper cost zen?

On official-style servers, MU Helper takes some zen (in-game gold) every 5 minutes while it runs, and the price rises the longer you keep it on without a break. Turning it off resets the cost back to the starting rate. Many private servers lower, remove or change this cost entirely, so check your server's settings before a long farming session.

Can MU Helper auto-pick only certain items?

Yes. In the Obtaining tab you can choose Pick All Near Items to grab everything, or Pick Selected Items to collect only the items you tick on the list. There is also an Add Extra Item box where you type a specific item name to target. This search is usually case-sensitive (it cares about capital and small letters), so match the spelling exactly.

Does MU Helper work in town or while offline?

No to both for the standard Helper. It only works in hunting and monster maps, not in safe zones or villages (the towns with no fighting), and it needs your client to stay open and logged in. True offline auto-hunt, where it keeps going after you log out, is not part of the standard MU Helper. It is a separate feature that some private servers add on their own.

What is Helper Plus?

Helper Plus is an upgraded version of MU Helper for high-level characters, normally around level 400+ in high-level maps like Debenter and beyond. It can move itself to empty spawn zones (spots where monsters appear) or switch channels (separate copies of a map), and you can usually use it only as a solo player or party leader. Whether you have it depends on the season and server, so check that it exists on yours.
