Indie Browser Games - Play in Your Browser

No installer, no store account: browser games are the fastest way to try an indie game. Browse web games from independent developers, ranked by player votes.

Indie browser games are HTML5, WebGL or WebAssembly games that run in a web browser without installation. Developers build them with tools such as Phaser, Construct, Godot, Unity and GameMaker, and publish them on their own sites or on portals like itch.io.

Play browser games safely

  • Play at the source. Use the developer's site or their official itch.io page from the game listing. Re-uploads on ad-heavy portals often run old versions and take revenue from the creator.
  • Ignore download prompts. A browser game never needs you to install an extension or download an .exe to play.
  • Saves live in your browser. Clearing site data can wipe progress; look for an export-save option in longer games.

What makes a good web game

The best browser games load in seconds, work with mouse, keyboard and touch, and scale to any screen. 2D engines such as Phaser and Construct are built for the web, Godot and GameMaker export to HTML5, and Unity's web builds suit lighter 3D. Size is the main constraint: every extra megabyte loses impatient players.

Browser builds are also the cheapest demo you can offer. Many developers publish a web version on itch.io during development and point players to the full game on Steam; the indie games directory shows both links side by side.

Listing your browser game

  • Tick Web Browser in platforms so your game appears on this page.
  • Use your itch.io page or your own site as the website so players can start playing in one click.
  • Say in the short pitch whether the game works on mobile browsers and how long a session lasts.

List your browser game free.

Indie browser games: mga madalas itanong

Do I need to install anything to play these games?

No. Browser games run in a modern browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari. If a site asks you to install software to play, leave it.

Do browser games work on phones?

Many do, but not all. Check the listing's platforms and short description; games built for touch say so.

Which engines can export to the web?

Phaser, Construct, PixiJS, Godot, GameMaker and Unity all produce web builds; size and performance vary by engine and project.
