Editorial Policy & Ranking Rules (MU Online)

How ranking works

• Organic Rank: Based only on real-user votes after integrity checks and monthly resets.
• Total lists: Some pages show Total (Organic + Bonus). These include clearly labeled Bonus votes and can differ from Organic.
• Fairness: We do not sell Organic Rank. Paid features do not change Organic order.
• Integrity: We filter suspicious activity and may remove invalid votes. See Integrity.

Gold (Premium) explained

• What you get: Extra visibility (banners, highlights) and up to 400 Bonus votes per calendar month.
• Where it counts: Bonus is included only on lists that say Total (Organic + Bonus). It is not added to Organic Rank.
• Can it change position? Yes, on lists that include bonus your server can appear higher or lower compared to Organic.
• No guarantees: We do not guarantee rankings, traffic, or votes. Results vary by player interest.
• Clear labels: We label “Votes (Organic)” and show a small “Bonus +X” pill where applicable.

Short version: Organic decides the main ranking. Gold can improve your visibility and adds up to 400 clearly labeled bonus votes on some lists, which can change your position there. No guarantees.

Simple example

• Organic list: Server A = 1,000 organic. Server B = 900 organic. Result: A ranks above B.
• Total list: A = 1,000 + 0 bonus = 1,000. B = 900 + 400 bonus = 1300. Result: B appears above A on Total.
• Takeaway: Organic and Total can differ. Labels make it clear which is which.

Independence

• No pay-to-rank (Organic): We never sell Organic positions.
• Separate decisions: Editorial rules are set independently from sales.
• Conflicts: Team members with a financial interest in a server must disclose and recuse.

Sponsorships & Disclosures

• Sponsored: Paid placements that increase visibility. They don’t change Organic Rank.
• Featured: Curated modules that showcase servers. They don’t change Organic Rank.
• Organic: Default, rank-ordered list from real-user votes after checks.

Moderation

• Accuracy: Season/version, EXP rates, wipes, region, and tags must be true.
• Safety: Malware, phishing, or deceptive downloads are removed.
• Conduct: No hate speech, harassment, or incitement.
• Availability: Abandoned projects or long downtime may be paused.
• Abuse: Scripts, bot farms, or traffic laundering are penalized.

Accuracy

• Bylines & updates: Guides/news include authorship or team credit and a visible last-updated date.
• Source checks: We prefer official patch notes and announcements.
• Context: Performance or player counts are shown with timeframes when available.

Corrections

• Report an error: Use the contact form or email [email protected] with the page link and evidence.
• Review: We review in a reasonable time and confirm once fixed.
• Notices: Material fixes may get an “Updated” note or appear in the change log.

User content (server listings)

• Owner responsibility: Listing info must be accurate and compliant.
• Vote attribution: Votes attach to the listing that received them. They are not transferable.
• Appeals: You can appeal moderation decisions via Contact.

Accessibility

• We aim for clear headings, keyboard navigation, and good contrast.
• We support English and Spanish where possible.
