Guild Wars 3: Release Date, Beta Window and Everything ArenaNet Has Actually Confirmed
Guild Wars 3 has no release date. ArenaNet has confirmed a fall 2027 beta, PC and PS5, and an Orr setting. Here is everything actually confirmed.
Guild Wars 3 has exactly one dated milestone, and it is not a release date. ArenaNet's official site says betas begin in fall 2027, and that is the only calendar commitment the studio has made since announcing the game at Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026. NCSoft's announcement release states that pricing, beta tests, release date and gameplay features will all be revealed later in 2026 and into 2027. So if you have seen a launch year attached to this game, it did not come from ArenaNet. Here is what is confirmed, what is deferred, and what to expect from its Gamescom 2026 showing this month.
What ArenaNet has actually confirmed
Strip out the aggregator noise and the confirmed list for Guild Wars 3 is short enough to read in thirty seconds. Everything below comes from NCSoft's announcement press release, the official Guild Wars 3 site, or the game's live Steam store page. If you are after something playable today, that is what the games list is for. This page is only about what has been confirmed.
- Announcement. June 5, 2026, at Summer Game Fest. The release carries a Bellevue, Washington dateline and was issued by NCSoft; ArenaNet is a wholly owned NCSoft subsidiary.
- Platforms. PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. This is the first Guild Wars title on home consoles.
- Beta. The official site states that "betas begin in the Fall 2027". That is the first beta test, not a launch.
- Release date. None announced. The Steam page lists its planned release date as to be announced.
- Setting. Orr, more than 1,000 years before the original Guild Wars.
- Subscription. None required, in line with franchise tradition.
That is the confirmed dated and platform set. ArenaNet and NCSoft have also detailed the setting and systems, covered below. What is not confirmed anywhere is a release year.
The release date: there isn't one
This is the part search results get wrong most often. There is no Guild Wars 3 release date. The press release commits only to revealing more about pricing, beta tests, release date and gameplay features later in 2026 and into 2027, and the Steam listing for app ID 4743930 shows a planned release date of "To be announced" as of mid-August 2026.
If you have seen a specific launch year quoted, check where it came from before you believe it. At least one outlet published the announcement under a headline reading "in 2027", which is the beta year, not a launch year. ArenaNet has not named a year.
Our read: a fall 2027 first beta makes a 2027 launch implausible and puts the realistic window past it. That is an inference from how MMO betas usually run, not a fact. Until ArenaNet says otherwise, the honest answer is "unannounced".
The fall 2027 beta, the only dated milestone
Fall 2027 is the single date on the board. It refers to the first beta test, and the official site phrases it in the plural, which suggests a testing programme rather than one weekend. What ArenaNet has not said is how you get in, whether access is tied to a pre-order or a wishlist, how long the tests run, or which platforms the first one covers.
Steam and PlayStation Store wishlists opened on announcement day and cost nothing. ArenaNet has not said whether wishlisting has any bearing on beta access. Until it does, the studio's own channels are the place to watch. In the meantime, the servers actually opening this week are tracked in grand openings.
PC, PS5, and the first console Guild Wars
No Guild Wars game has previously reached home consoles. Guild Wars 3 changes that: it launches on PC through Steam and on PlayStation 5, and NCSoft's announcement calls it the first Guild Wars title on home consoles.
The interesting detail is that this is not being framed as a port. The press release describes a combat system explicitly designed for both controller and keyboard, built around positioning, movement and momentum. That is the strongest available evidence that the console version is a design constraint rather than an afterthought. Our read: controller-first combat usually pushes back on ability bloat, though ArenaNet has said nothing about classes.
It also matters for context: this is ArenaNet's first all-new game since Guild Wars 2 launched on PC in 2012. The studio, formed in 2000 and based in Bellevue, has shipped expansions in the interim, so "first new game in fourteen years" is accurate only if you read "new game" strictly. It is still a long gap between original titles by any measure.
Orr, Vaelwardens and Seeker spirits
Guild Wars 3 is set in Orr, more than 1,000 years before the original Guild Wars. Note the wording: the official framing is "over 1,000 years", a floor rather than a fixed number, so anyone quoting a precise millennium is tightening language ArenaNet left loose. The official site describes Orr as an enchanting frontier full of mystery, magic and wonder, which is marketing copy. What that frontier looks like this far back is the thing to watch for at Gamescom.
The concrete systems detail from the announcement is thinner but more useful:
- Vaelwarden. Your role. A guild member sworn to protect the Vael spirits and the land itself.
- Seeker spirits. These act as mounts and as your connection to the wild, so traversal and a companion system appear to be the same mechanic.
- Guild conflict. Multiple guilds are in conflict over whether to protect or exploit resources, which reads as the game's central faction tension.
Game director and ArenaNet studio head Colin Johanson pitched the project as "a new era not just for ArenaNet and Guild Wars", framing it around modernising the genre and respecting players' time. Treat that as intent, not as a feature list. Every MMORPG announcement says something like it; the ones worth trusting are the ones that still say it after the first beta.
No subscription, but no announced business model
The press release confirms no subscription fee and notes that the Guild Wars franchise has never required one across a history that has welcomed more than 29 million players. That is genuine, and it is the strongest structural continuity between this game and the two before it.
What it is not is a confirmed business model. "No subscription" does not tell you whether Guild Wars 3 is buy-to-play like Guild Wars 2 or free-to-play with a cash shop, and ArenaNet has announced neither. Pricing details are explicitly deferred to the later-in-2026-and-into-2027 window along with everything else. If you are budgeting for this game, you currently cannot, and anyone quoting you a price is guessing.
What Gamescom 2026 will and won't show
Guild Wars 3 is being represented at Gamescom 2026 this month, but according to Kevin Willing's August 11, 2026 report for guided.news, it appears initially in the B2B area, aimed at press, content creators and business partners rather than the public show floor.
The practical consequence is worth setting expectations around. German streamer Metashi has said he will be shown a full hour of Guild Wars 3 gameplay behind closed doors, will not be permitted to record or publish the footage, but will be allowed to talk about what he saw. So the realistic Gamescom outcome is written and spoken impressions, not a public gameplay drop.
If you were waiting for the extended gameplay video, Gamescom is probably not where you get it. What you should get is the first independent read on how the game actually plays, which after an in-engine announcement trailer is arguably more informative anyway. Whatever surfaces will be covered in the news hub.
The private-server angle, honestly
There isn't one, and we are not going to invent one. Mutop100 lists private servers, and Guild Wars has no meaningful emulator scene to list. Guild Wars 3 will not have one anywhere near launch either. This is straight upcoming-MMO news, and the useful thing we can do is report it accurately rather than bolt a fake angle onto it.
If the reason Guild Wars 3 caught your attention is the wait, there are older MMO worlds you can play right now on the emulator side. Aion private servers and Lineage 2 private servers both have active custom-server communities, and the Aion overview is a reasonable starting point if you have never touched it.
We will update this page as ArenaNet fills in the blanks. For how we handle unconfirmed claims, see our editorial policy.
FAQ
When is the Guild Wars 3 release date?
There is no release date. ArenaNet has not announced one, and the Steam page still lists the release as to be announced. The press release commits only to revealing pricing, beta tests, release date and gameplay features later in 2026 and into 2027. Any launch year you see quoted did not come from ArenaNet.
When is the Guild Wars 3 beta?
The official Guild Wars 3 site states that betas begin in fall 2027. That is the first beta test and the only dated milestone the studio has committed to. How access works, how long tests run, and which platforms are covered first have not been announced.
What platforms is Guild Wars 3 on?
PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. It is the first Guild Wars game to reach home consoles. The combat system is described as designed for both controller and keyboard, built around positioning, movement and momentum, which suggests the console version is a design goal rather than a later port.
Will Guild Wars 3 have a subscription fee?
No. The announcement confirms no subscription, consistent with a franchise that has never required one. But that does not confirm the business model: buy-to-play versus free-to-play is unannounced, and pricing details are deferred to later in 2026 and into 2027. You cannot budget for it yet.
Where and when is Guild Wars 3 set?
In Orr, more than 1,000 years before the original Guild Wars. You play a Vaelwarden, a guild member protecting the Vael spirits and the land, with Seeker spirits acting as mounts and as your link to the wild. Multiple guilds are in conflict over protecting or exploiting resources.
Are there Guild Wars private servers?
Not in any meaningful sense. The Guild Wars franchise has no substantial emulator or private-server scene, and Guild Wars 3 will not have one near launch. If you want MMOs you can play on custom servers today, Aion and Lineage 2 both have active private-server communities listed on this site.
